Non-residential participants

We are looking forward very much to welcoming you to the 2022 Richard Michael Jazz Summer Course. The full address of the venue is Strathallan School, Forgandenny, Perth, PH2 9EG. There will be a jazz course banner on the gates, and signs along the driveway directing you to the RMJSC parking and registration.

The course begins on Sunday 3rd July with an introductory session from 7.00 pm to approximately 8.30 pm. You will NOT need your instrument for this session. Registration for non-residential participants runs from 5.30 pm until 6.30 pm on Sunday 3rd July. If you are unable to attend the Sunday evening session, it is possible to register between 8.30 am and 9.15 pm on Monday 4th July instead. We would be grateful if you could kindly advise us in advance if this is the case.

Non-residential attendance includes lunch each day from Monday to Friday inclusive, as well as light refreshments mid-morning and mid-afternoon. If you require dinner any evening from Sunday to Thursday, this can be booked in advance at an additional cost of £9.68 plus VAT per meal. Please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to book dinner for any evening(s) during the week – particularly on Sunday 3rd July – so that we can pass this on to the school.

The formal programme finishes at 5 pm each afternoon from Monday to Thursday inclusive, so non-residential participants can be collected any time between 5 pm and 6 pm.

We begin each day from Monday to Friday inclusive at 9.30 am with a warm-up session. The course ends with an informal concert from 2 pm until 4 pm on Friday 8th July, to which family and friends are warmly invited.

There is car parking on campus, for which permits must be displayed. We will distribute permits as required when you register, but it would be most helpful if you could kindly email us the registration number of your vehicle as soon as possible, please.

Please ensure that you have tested negative for COVID no more than 18 hours before arriving to register for the course, and familiarise yourself with our COVID-19 procedures. Please note that if anyone tests positive for COVID at any stage, it will be necessary for them to leave the course, in compliance with the requirements of the venue.

Please do not bring any unnecessary valuables or cash with you. We will have the facility to lock away any items which you wish us to keep secure during the day, so please contact one of the administration or houseparent team if you would like to make use of this. We will also have a lockable room available for instruments outwith class times.

Please bring your own instrument and, if possible, a music stand, which should be labelled with your name. If you play keyboard / piano or drums, and are unable to bring your own instrument, please let us know immediately if you have not already done so. Please arrange adequate insurance cover for your instruments, as they will not be covered under either ESJE’s or the school’s policy.

We will be able to use the swimming pool from 5 pm until 6 pm each day from Monday to Thursday inclusive. Please bring your own towel for use in the pool.
