The Richard Michael Jazz Summer Course is the number one Scottish jazz course for players of all ages and stages, with a focus on improvisation and playing with others. Players thrive in an environment where “mistakes are cool”.
The course is led by Professor Richard Michael, Honorary Professor of Jazz at St Andrews University. In a packed programme, participants enjoy masterclasses and combos under the supportive guidance of a stellar cast of professional tutors in brass, percussion, woodwind, bass, strings and voice. In the evenings, everyone kicks back and jams until late on. If you are new to jamming, a special session will unravel the mysteries for you and give you the confidence dive in!
The course offers an exceptional opportunity for young jazz musicians who may find it difficult to find opportunities to play with others. With a strong youth contingent, some as young as 10, the classrooms of Strathallan reverberate to the sounds of enthusiastic jazz creation.

All this is delivered in the beautiful setting of Strathallan School, in rural Perthshire.
